A project that ran eleven weeks late, and the estimating it forced us to rebuild.

Devsoftware started in 2019 in a first-floor room above a print shop on Otley Road. Priya had spent six years on warehouse systems for a Bradford logistics firm. Tom came off a bank's payments team. Both were tired of the same meeting: the one where a delivery date is defended long after everyone in the room knows it has gone.

It happened to us anyway. In 2021 we sold a logistics platform for March and put it live in June: eleven weeks late, on a fixed price we ate. The client stayed, which is not the point. The point is that we had priced the work as one number, and one number cannot be wrong in a way anybody can learn from.

So we stopped quoting whole projects. We quote a two-week discovery, and we come out of it with a scope, a build plan and a fixed price for the phase we can actually see. After that the work runs in fortnights. There is a demo every second Thursday, on a real environment, whether or not it flatters us.

Seven years on there are nine of us, still in Leeds, still writing the code ourselves. The company behind the studio is Juno Labs Limited.

Position

Most software is late because nobody agreed what finished meant.

Agreeing it is unglamorous work. It is a fortnight of reading your data, sitting in your warehouse or your finance team's morning call, and writing down the twenty edge cases that will otherwise surface in week nine. We charge for that fortnight because it is the work, and because a price given before it is a guess wearing a suit.

What we don't do

We don't rent developers by the head. If what you need is three engineers on your standup for six months, that is a staffing agency, not a studio, and we will happily name you a good one in Leeds. We also don't take a fixed price on a scope nobody has written yet.

Discovery & scoping
from £3,200

Two weeks with your team, your data and your constraints. You leave with a written scope, a build plan and a fixed price for phase one — yours to take elsewhere if you'd rather.

Select
Web platform build
from £26,000

React or Vue at the front, Node or .NET behind it, Postgres underneath. Built in two-week increments you can see running on a real environment.

Mobile applications
from £34,000

iOS and Android from one codebase, or native where the hardware demands it. App Store and Play submission handled, including the review rejections nobody warns you about.

Select
Internal systems
from £18,500

The spreadsheet that quietly runs your business, rewritten as software that doesn't break when somebody sorts a column.

Select
Integrations & APIs
from £7,400

Xero, Shopify, HubSpot, a 2003 ERP that speaks only CSV over FTP. We get them talking, and we write down what happens when one of them is down.

Select
Technical due diligence
from £3,900

Codebase, infrastructure, licences and key-person risk, read in a fortnight and written up for people who are not engineers. Common before an acquisition or a first institutional round.

Select
Support & maintenance
from £1,450 / month

A named engineer, agreed response times, and a monthly note saying what we changed and why. Rolling, cancellable on thirty days.

03 / Method

How it runs

Four stages, and a date you can put in front of a board without hedging it.

01

Discovery

Two weeks, fixed fee. We read the data, sit in the meetings and write the scope. You own the document either way.

02

Build

Fortnightly increments against that scope. A demo every second Thursday on a real environment, not a slide.

03

Release

Staged rollout, monitoring switched on before users are, and a rollback we have actually rehearsed.

04

After

Named engineer, agreed response times, monthly note. Or a clean handover to your own team, documented.
